Population Officers Set Plans and Strategies for 2020 Population Program in Region I

The Regional Population Management Conference (RPMC) convened its Provincial and City Population Officers (P/CPOs) during its first quarter meeting held on February 18-19, 2020 at Candon City, Ilocos Sur.

The highlight of the said meeting was the planning workshop of the local government units where the P/CPOs identified issues and opportunities met during their implementation of various population programs and enumerated their best practices. In addition, POPCOM I Regional Director Erma R. Yapitpresented the Philippine Population Management Program (PPMP) Directions for 2020 which helped the participants set their targets for the year 2020.

Moreover, the Joint Memorandum Circular (JMC) No. 1 Series of 2019 Supplemental Guidelines to the JMC No. 1, series of 2018 and the Guideline on the Expanded Roles and Functions of Population Officers in conjunction with the DILG Memo Circular No. 2019-1000 were also shared among the group.

Candon City Mayor Ericson G. Singson graced the first day of the meeting and said “we (Candon City) are also doing our part to fully support it (Family Planning Program).” He also emphasized the various demand generation activities that were being conducted in the city such as Pre-Marriage Orientation and Counseling (PMOC), campaign for the use of modern natural methods of family planning, and adolescent health and development symposiums to control and decrease the teenage pregnancy cases.(POPCOM I)
