Energy company gives assistance to Laoag schools

In cooperation with the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, the Energy Development Corporation (EDC) awards certificates of entitlement to 12 public elementary schools in Ilocos Norte.

The certificates entitle the initial batch of 12 schools selected by the City Government of Laoag for a health and sanitation program for a total of 55 schools in the province in the next three years. The said program includes the installation of toilets and hand washing stations.

The 55 schools represent 30% of the total Millennium Development Goal schools in the province as identified by the United Nations’ MDG Commission.

“If it’s for education, we are always ready to help,” said EDC President and Chief Operating Officer Richard Tantoco.

The project is in compliance with EDC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program which requires it to contribute to the socio-economic condition of its host local government units such as Laoag City.

EDC has invested in the Burgos Wind Project, which includes the construction of wind turbines to address the increasing energy demands in the Luzon electric grid; the groundbreaking ceremony took place in the morning.

“EDC is serious with the fulfillment of their CSR. They are truly sincere with it,” stated Ilocos Norte Board Member Mariano Marcos II.

Governor Imee Marcos has vowed to fully support EDC on its wind project, furthering the strong public-private partnership between PGIN and EDC.—Ephraim Jovid Bulusan, CMO-Intern
