The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte, in partnership with Globe Telecom, Inc., has launched its “GoWiFi” service in key locations in the province to bring free internet connection and accessible communication services to the Ilocanos.

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Globe President-Chief Executive Officer Ernest Cu jointly signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) during a gathering held at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Session Hall Capitol Building, Laoag City yesterday, February 11.

Co-signatories to the MOA were Vice Governor Cecilia Araneta Marcos, Globe Director for Business Development and Marketing Janis Racpan, Globe Senior Vice President for Enterprise Group Peter Maquera, and Globe Executive Vice President for Channel Management Bernard Llamzon.

At present, the free public WiFi services are available at the Provincial Capitol Building, Aurora Park, Laoag and Batac City Halls and San Nicolas I.T. Park.

Keen to boost the province’s digital transformation, Governor Manotoc remarked: “We are very excited for the future (technology) because the Globe has pledged to connect all 23 towns and cities of Ilocos Norte with WiFi. We look forward to a very healthy, fruitful, and mutually beneficial partnership with Globe.”

The MOA also covers the installation of “GoWiFi” service in the remaining 21 municipalities in the province.

Signifying his objective to facilitate “digitalization” in Ilocos Norte, Mr. Cu assured: “Globe is driving its purpose. We want families to succeed, businesses to flourish and a province to be admired…You can count on Globe to support your digital initiatives here in Ilocos Norte.”—(Blessing Angel V. Agliam, PGIN-CMO)
