NBI-Laoag nabs 2 fugitives wanted in 1984 rape case

LAOAG CITY, June 20, 2020–Two fugitives from this city were no match to the long arm of the law.

Lawyer Diosdado Araos, chief of the National Bureau of Investigation-Laoag office, said his NBI agents, assisted by barangay officials, separately arrested the fugitives who are long wanted by lawmen for their alleged involvement in the rape of two women in 1984.

He said the suspects escaped the trial of the case and went into separate hiding for 27 and 36 years.

The NBI official said that actually, there were five people (including the above two suspects) who were accused in the said rape case, one was acquitted, two others were convicted and one of the latter died while serving his prison term.

The two arrested suspects are now under the NBI-Laoag custody to face the trial of the rape charges against them, Attorney Araos said. (tri-media report)
