Christmas Contests Held, Winners Bared

LAOAG CITY – The City Government of Laoag held its annual Lantern Parade and Walking Christmas Decor Competition last Dec. 16. Various lanterns, made mostly of indigenous materials, and Christmas decors were paraded around the city thoroughfares. At least 75 “walking” Christmas décors were worn by city school pupils while 23 lanterns competed for the category. Chevylle V. Fariñas, ABC president and ex-officio member of the city council, expressed gratefulness to the participants for making the event successful. She cited their efforts for presenting many very impressive entries to the contest . She added that the success of the event was achieved through the joint efforts of the organizers as well as the participants.

The winners in the following categories were:

LANTERN MAKING COMPETITION – BARANGAY CATEGORY

  • First Place – Barangay 7-B (Brgy. Chairman Joel Mateo)
  • Second Place – Barangay 60-B Madiladig (Brgy. Chairman Pedro Manuel)
  • Third Place – Barangay 17 (Brgy. Chairman Jefferson Flores)

LANTERN MAKING COMPETITION – SCHOOLS CATEGORY

  • First Place – Ilocos Norte National High School
  • Second Place – Ilocos Norte National High School
  • Third Place – Apaya Elementary School

WALKING CHRISTMAS DÉCOR COMPETITION

  • First Place – Barangay 20 Day care Center
  • Second Place – Barangay 11 Day Care Center
  • Third Place – Barangay 15 Day Care Center
