Restored St. Anne Church of Piddig reopened

PIDDIG, Ilocos Norte, July 26, 2019– The newly restored St. Anne Parish Church of this town was formally reopened for the Catholic faithful and devotees during its blessing and inauguration rites held this morning with special guests from the Diocese of Laoag, National Historical Commission of the Philippines and ranking provincial and municipal officials.

The NHCP funded and supervised the restoration work of this centuries-old church which was erected over 200 years ago by the Augustinian missionaries during the Spanish regime.

Bishop Renato Mayugba said the church roof, wall, and floor were restored based on its original centuries-old design.

The church edifice was temporarily closed as a place of worship in 2014 after it was declared as condemned structure as it posed danger to the public.

In turning over the project to the Diocese, the NHCP said the restored St. Anne Church is a national cultural property. (d.d./tri-media report)
