Octogenarian woman killed in dawn fire

LAOAG CITY, Dec. 26, 2020– A woman was charred to death when an early dawn fire burned her residential house at Brgy. Uno, San Lorenzo, this city, Bureau of Fire Protection officials reported.

BFP authorities said the victim was 86 years old, and a lone occupant of the house. Her two adult children are said to be living abroad.

At the height of the blaze, responding firefighters broke the locked glass windows to enable them to enter the house engulfed with flame.

The firemen found the 4th-degree burned body of the victim inside her bedroom.

Ongoing investigation showed that the blaze was apparently ignited by an unplugged TV set.

Witness Lydia Tungpalan told probers that her Lola was fond of watching daily TV shows.

She said she always advised her Lola to unplug the TV socket after watching but the victim either ignored or forgot it due to her age. (jun r. guiang w/ tri-media report)
