Many chickens dying due to extreme heat–PVET

VINTAR, Ilocos Norte, May 19, 2021–Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Loida Valenzuela confirmed that many government-dispersed chickens raised by typhoon Ompong victims and pandemic-affected families here were reportedly dying due to the present extreme summer heat.

She said the initial deaths were 30 heads out of the chicken breeds brought from Isabela to Ilocos for DA-assisted livelihood projects.

Dehydration is the common cause of death among chickens and other animals during this hot summer session, hence, they need to drink a lot of water and have proper ventilation in their cages, the PVET official explained. (tri-media report)
