Man saved in a dramatic rescue off Padsan River

LAOAG CITY – Rescuers saved the life of 46-year-old fisherman Ranie Medrano of nearby San Nicolas town as his bamboo raft was carried away by strong current off Padsan River here which swelled due to typhoon-induced monsoon rains on August 24.

Dr. Melvin Manuel, chief of CDRRMO, said that an informant tipped off that a man yelling for help was spotted being swept off Padsan River.

He quickly dispatched the search and rescue team of Laoag City composed of personnel from BFP, PNP, and CDRRMC.

From the top of the Laoag bridge, the rescuers threw a long rope at the victim’s direction.
The victim got hold firmly of the rope as the rescuers lifted him safely to the bridge amid many spectators.

Witnesses said they later lost sight of the raft with an alleged small cargo of machine apparatus shortly after the rescue incident. (tri-media report)
