Gunmen attack elderly farmer: Shot, robbed

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, Dec. 24, 2020–Shooters riding-in-tandem wounded and robbed a farmer during an attack near the church in this town, police authorities reported.

P/Captain Eddie Suyat, the town police chief, said the victim, aboard his bicycle, headed for home in nearby Brgy. Paratong after coming from his farm when the suspects followed him aboard a motorcycle.

Upon reaching near the front of the church at Brgy. San Pedro, the suspects fired at him hitting his neck, Captain Suyat added.

As the bloodied victim fell to the ground, the police chief said that one of the suspects alighted from their motorcycle and grabbed the victim’s wallet containing P1,000 cash, ID cards, and other important papers.

The unidentified suspects fled the crime scene towards the north direction.
Rescuers rushed the victim to the hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.

Ongoing investigation showed that the suspects probably learned that the victim had just sold his farm animal, hence, the gunmen robbed him thinking the farmer-victim was carrying with him the big amount.

Shortly after the robbery-shooting, the Paoay cops were quickly fielded to track down the two suspects. (jun r. guiang w/ tri-media report)
