City COMELEC bares Calendar of Activities for 2019 elections

LAOAG CITY, Jan. 11 (PIA) – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Laoag City disclosed to the public the official calendar of activities for the mid-year poll.

Lawyer Julius Balbas, city elections officer, announced the opening of election period on Jan. 13 until June 12, 2019 as stated in the Comelec Resolution 10429.

“Campaign period for the senatorial candidates and party groups will begin on Feb. 12 until May 11,” Balbas said.

For the congressional, regional, provincial, city, and municipal offices, the period for campaigning is set on March 30 to May 11.

To ensure the safety and accuracy of votes, a Special Board of Election Inspectors will be designated in local jails.

Gun ban operation
As the election season is nearing, Balbas appeals for the full cooperation of the locals and political contenders in the implementation of gun ban which will start on Jan. 13.

Further, firearm holders can still apply at the Comelec Main Office for exemption.

Checkpoint implementation
The police force of the Ilocos Norte Provincial Police Office (INPPO) continues to conduct checkpoints in various towns to prevent occurrence of crimes and untoward incidents.

According to Police Chief Insp. Rely Layug of the INPPO Community Relations Office, the station is regularly holding checkpoint operations and will be intensified at the start of the election period.
