Over 50 improvised explosives for illegal fishing seized

LAOAG CITY, June 9–Police operatives confiscated over 50 improvised explosives devices (IEDs) allegedly intended for illegal fishing during a sting at the coastal barangay of 32-A La Paz, this city.

During the police operations, at least ten people believed to be the suspected makers of the explosives were arrested.

Five of them are residents of Brgy. 32-A and the other five are residents of Brgy. 33-B, both in La Paz here.

The IEDs or homemade bombs were made of used glass bottles of gin and soft drinks in various sizes. They were concealed in styrofoam boxes.

The lawmen also seized from the suspects some fishing paraphernalia including four packs of powdered potassium nitrates, red-color safety fuses, and blasting caps.

At press time, the 10 suspects were held under police custody pending the filing of criminal charges against them. (d.v./tri-media report)
