PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, Jan. 19–A school principal confirmed that one of his students was allegedly mauled by four fellow schoolmates outside their campus yesterday.
Principal Daniel Tabili of the Paoay National High School said the mauling incident occurred at about 11 a.m. in the back of the Paoay public market which is located near their PNHS campus.
The victim, Grade 10 and the suspects, Grades 11 and 10, were minors, hence, their names were withheld for publication.
Tabili told reporters that the (unconscious) victim was rushed to the emergency room of the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital in nearby Batac City to revive him and for treatment of his injuries in the body.
He said the victim was discharged from the hospital Friday afternoon and was later sent home where he’s now recuperating.
Jeff Agcolicol said his nephew, the victim, sustained a swollen left eye and his nose appeared dis-aligned that needs a possible surgery.
The principal said the motive of the mauling was not yet determined pending investigation.
However, media reports hinted that alleged jealousy over “crush” of a beauteous campus schoolgirl apparently triggered the mauling incident.
Tabili said parents of both the suspects and victim were invited for confrontation in an effort to tackle the problem noting that the school does not tolerate such incident to happen among their students.(bbr/tri-media report)
