Reinvestigate High Profile Cases — De Lima

LAOAG CITY (Aug. 10) – Justice Secretary Leila de Lima yesterday vowed to task her battery of government prosecutors to revive and re-investigate all unsolved criminal cases in Ilocos Norte including those high-profile ones that had virtually gathered dust in past many years.

In an interview here with local journalists, Secretary De Lima gave assurance that she would personally look into these criminal cases in an effort to help those aggrieved parties who are seeking justice for their loved ones who became victims of unsolved killings.

With this assurance by the DOC secretary, the local tri-media group in Laoag expressed optimism that the media killings in Ilocos Norte would be resolved in the near future.

As this developed, the slay case of murdered broadcaster Roger Mariano had a new twist as the Manila Court handling the case had exonerated the two accused on findings that they were innocent of the crime.

Investigators on the recent killing of radioman Lito Agustin had also presented to the City Prosecutor’s Office initial documents such as transcribed aired radio programs of the victim before his assassination.

The case of slain radio reporter Andy Acosta may also be revived because the real culprit in his killing is yet to be prosecuted and sent to jail. (JRG)
