POEA steps up drive vs. illegal job recruitment in Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY— The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) saw the need to intensify its information drive against illegal recruitment and human trafficking in the province as Ilocanos continued to seek employment aboard, Delfina Camarillo, POEA Regional Center officer-in-charge said.

Camarillo reported that their office together with other government agencies had regularly conducted one-stop shop service for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) at the Ilocos Norte provincial auditorium every second and fourth Tuesday of the month.

Recently, she said that a woman suspect was arrested and charged with illegal recruitment before the court at the Marcos Hall of Justice. Her arrest was made possible through the partnership of POEA and local officials.

Police authorities discovered that the suspect had no existing POEA license.
Camarillo advised prospective job applicants to deal only with recruitment agencies which have existing POEA license. (Theo S. Guiang)
