Illegal logging cases down in I. Norte

LAOAG CITY, Jan. 29 – Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Juan De Los Reyes reported the significant decline of cases of illegal cutting of trees in the province.

De los Reyes said the decline was attributed to the serious legal actions taken by the government such as the filing in court against those who violated PD 705 or the Anti-Illegal Logging Law in the past years.

He added that the record showing that an apparent decrease of number of persons charged in courts indicates the collaboration between the local and national agencies in the campaign against illegal logging in the province.

He said that his agency is also monitoring the alleged kaingin activities or slash and burn method of some farmers in the province.

He cited the good cooperation of all LGUs led by their municipal mayors and chiefs of police for having been actively involved in the anti-illegal logging campaign. (Theo Guiang)
