Gen. Bucayu bats for self-discipline

LAOAG CITY, Nov. 9 — Police C/Supt. Franklin Jesus B. Bucayu, Region 1 police director, has challenged the 192 newly inducted police recruits to have self-discipline and right attitude towards training.

“Ang hamon ko sa inyo ngayon ay paghusayin ang inyong pagsasanay.
Train with enthusiasm for self-improvement. Learn and instill in your hearts and minds all the knowledge, skills and values that will be imparted to you by your mentors. At higit sa lahat, lalo pa ninyong pagtibayin ang pananalig sa Diyos, na siya nating gabay sa bawat gawain,” said Police General Bucayu during the recent opening ceremony of the police training held at Camp Florendo, La Union.

Bucayu stressed that the 6-month Public Safety Basic Recruit Course (PSBRC) and the subsequent Field Training Program (FTP) are designed to fully prepare them for the exacting demands of police work.

“Ang panunumpa ninyo sa katungkulan ay simula pa lamang, mahaba pa ang kailangan niyong lakbayin at marami pang pagsubok ang naghihintay sa inyong lahat,” he added.

According to PSupt. Raul Sapon Romero, head of the Regional Public Information Office, the recruits composed of 153 males and 39 females were a mixture of the 2011 Police Officer 1 (PO1) Recruitment Program where 114 have passed and the 2011 PO1 Attrition Recruitment Program 2nd phase where 78 recruits made it–all coming from the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.

Romero also added that because of the rigid screening process implemented by the Police Regional Office 1 Regional Screening Committee headed by Police C/Supt. Roman A. Felix, only 192 successfully passed all phases, though they were eyeing for a quota of 264 for Region 1 (161 for the Regular Program and 103 for the attrition Program).

The recruits were sent to the Regional Training School in Aringay, La Union, for the PSBRC after taking their oath of office. (PIA1 with reports from PRO1)
