Farm animals shelters during typhoons mulled

LAOAG CITY, September 26 – Animals need temporary shelters, too during storms. With this in mind, the Ilocos Norte provincial is looking to put up animal shelters in the villages where farm animals could be stored while waiting out a storm.

Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos said the province’s zero casualty for humans also applies to animals.

According to the governor, there’s a need to protect all farm animals because these are farmers’ sources of livelihood.

She asked village officials particularly in high-disaster risk areas to initiate the construction of farmers’ animal shelter.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) recorded livestock losses at P1.4 million. Previous typhoons have claimed the lives of carabaos, cattles and swine due to drowning. (FREDDIE G. LAZARO)
