DINGRAS, Ilocos Norte (May 9) – Newly-installed Dingras Vice Mayor Ruben Marcos disclosed that he received a text message hinting that he would be the next mayor of this town.
Many supporters deemed the cellphone message as either a joke or death threat against him or his political ally newly-sworn in Dingras Mayor Erdio Valenzuela. Erdio replaced Mayor Marynette Gamboa after she was unseated by Comelec.
Does it mean that Erdio would be eliminated by hook or by crook so that he (VM Marcos) becomes the next mayor?, the supporters asked.
VM Marcos said that after receiving said text message, he immediately reported it to police authorities for future reference.
He expressed fear that he would be the next target by hired killers.
Last week, several leaflets bearing death threats against him and Valenzuela were scattered in downtown here as the body of slain town councilor Randy Magno was taken to the town hall for a wake prior to his burial.
Magno was assassinated by two gunmen last Holy Thursday inside a machine shop in nearby Sarrat town.
