BID Field Officer in Laoag Suspension was due to Alleged Arrest of Chinese Nationals

Laoag City, Ilocos Norte (Sept. 3) – Paul Versoza, field officer of the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation in Laoag City , traced the cause of his recent suspension from office to the 2007 incident when he led the arrest of several Chinese nationals for allegedly working without permit in a mining company in Carasi, Ilocos Norte.

He said that he was surprised to receive report that he was one of the 39 BID officers who were suspended by the bureau.

Versoza said he supports the new administration’s campaign to reform the tarnish image of the government. But the indiscriminate suspension of some BID employees by the officer in charge in Manila would not help in the campaign. In fact, he said, that the “BID officials exceeded their discretion.”

Versoza said that he would appeal his case to the Civil Service Commission.
