VP Binay – PNoy Did Not Think Twice About Hospital Arrest for CGMA

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay today said President Benigno S. Aquino III “did not think twice” about allowing former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to stay at St. Luke’s Hospital despite the issuance of a warrant of arrest against her.

This was in sharp contrast to the treatment received by former President Joseph Estrada from the Arroyo administration, he said.

“Hindi nagdalawang isip ang Pangulo na payagan ang hospital arrest para sa dating Pangulong Arroyo,” the Vice President said.

He said this shows the administration’s humanitarian treatment of Mrs. Arroyo, which contrasted the treatment given to former President Estrada who had to wait months to be granted hospital privileges.

Binay said the approval of Arroyo’s hospital arrest took into consideration the opinions of both government doctors from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and private doctors.

The Vice President added that President Aquino is glad with the turn of events, since there was strong evidence to warrant the filing of the case against Mrs. Arroyo.

“What the President wanted was to file the case if warranted by evidence, and it is the position of government that it has strong evidence against Mrs. Arroyo,” he said.

Binay also said allegations that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) railroaded the filing of the electoral sabotage case against Mrs. Arroyo were unfounded, since the probe has been on-going for several months.

The Vice President’s reaction was made in light of the new move made by the Arroyo camp to question the credibility of the said panel.
