Sun Cellular Backs DOTC’s safe-driving advocacy

Telecommunications network Sun Cellular showed its full support to the Department of Transportation and Communication’s (DOTC) Decade of Action for Road Safety (DARS) program.

The Decade of Action for Road Safety aims to educate motorists on proper safety and security on the road, which would ultimately lead to reduced road casualties. The event also aimed to gather road safety advocates to rally behind the said cause.

Apart from helping in the information dissemination on the DARS program, Sun Cellular made available a free call booth for the participants to the event which was held to commemorate the program’s first anniversary.

“This is our own little way of showing support for an advocacy that aims to save lives. As much as we concern ourselves with the communication needs of the people, we also realize the importance of educating each Filipino on safety and security,” says Reuben S.J. Pangan, Vice President of Customer Relationship Management of Sun Cellular.

The Libreng Tawag booth catered to both domestic and international calls.

“We are truly grateful for Sun Cellular’s support to the DOTC’s road safety advocacy and we look forward to partnering with them in our various initiatives during this Decade of Action for Road Safety: 2011-2020. Sun Cellular’s active involvement in this public-private partnership will significantly contribute to achieving our goal of reducing by 50% the rate of growth of fatalities due to road crashes by 2020,” says Dante M. Lantin, DOTC Assistant Secretary and National Focal Point, Decade of Action for Road Safety.

The anniversary event also featured activities such as a relay run, walkathon, motor-bike caravan, blood-letting, and various safety forums.
