Senator Loren Legarda will make a sentimental trip to Davao City on September 17 to help raise awareness on breast cancer, a killer disease that has victimized her own family.
The Senator will be one of the speakers and will be talking on The Role of Family and Friends in this year’s Silver Linings, an educational forum and homecoming held every three years for victims of breast cancer and the people who help them fight the disease, organized by the ICanServe Foundation.
This year’s Silver Linings will be held at the Grand Regal Hotel in Davao City from 8am to 5pm and will be a venue to provide information, inspirational stories of survivorship and a circle of support to breast cancer victims.
The event will gather from all over the country about a thousand breast cancer patients, survivors, their families, and people who care for them.
Aside from Sen. Legarda, other ICanServe celebrity volunteers who will speak in breakout sessions in the said event are Jim Paredes, Karen Davila, Maritoni Fernandez, Bibeth Orteza, Melissa de Leon, Patty Betite, Twink Macaraig and Chiqui Roa.
Sen. Legarda will also lead the ribbon-cutting ceremony together with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Dawn Zulueta to open the free breast clinic during Silver Linings.
The forum offers a wide range of topics like Breast Cancer 101, Managing the Side Effects of Cancer Treatment, Exercise and Eating Right, Living with a Recurrence, Role of Family and Friends, Grief, Looking Good During Cancer, Breast Cancer in the Young, Keeping Healthy When in Remission, and many more.
After her mom died of the Big C, Sen. Legarda established the Bessie B. Legarda Memorial Foundation (BBLMF).
The BBLMF helps indigent breast cancer patients and conducts monthly medical missions with fellow breast cancer awareness advocates in different parts of the country.
The BBLMF medical missions benefit not only breast cancer patients but also women who are not yet victims of breast cancer by giving mammography and other related services.*****
