LAOAG CITY – Sarrat Mayor Edito Balintona may face a 60-day preventive suspension in relation to the death of barangay chairman Francis Cariño of Brgy. 2, said town.
This was disclosed by Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos during the Provincial Peace and Order Summit held last October 27.
Marcos said it was recommended to her that Mayor Balintona be suspended preventively since the three suspects in the killing of the barangay chairman were alleged security escorts of Mayor Balintona and the vehicle used by the suspects is owned by the mayor.
Marcos added that she will still look at every angle before the action could be undertaken in order that the result of the investigation will not be influenced.
She made the assurance that due process will be observed in the issuance of the preventive suspension. (edg)
