Tricycle driver shot to death

BADOC, Ilocos Norte, May 31–Melchor Somera, 55, married, and tricycle driver, was shot and killed by gunmen riding in tandem at Brgy. Alay, this town, police reported.

Investigators said the victim was driving his motorcycle homebound after bringing his wife to the town proper when the assailants apparently followed him.

Upon reaching an isolated area going to his residence at Sitio Nagbabaan, the suspects staged the attack and repeatedly shot him at close range, the report said.

The suspects fled southward aboard their motorcycle.

The victim suffered four gunshot wounds in the body including the right side of the chest.

Lt. Noli Alejandro, acting town police chief, said the victim was still breathing as his eyes blinked when his responding team arrived at the crime scene and rescued him.

They rushed him to the hospital where the attending doctor and nurses declared the victim dead on arrival.

Rufo Polendey said his son-in-law Melchor had no known enemy in their barangay.

However, the lawmen said they had already a clue in their investigation to determine the motive of the killing. (tri-media report)
