All six government-run hospitals and two related health offices in Ilocos Norte have received Automated External Defibrillators (AED) units to help improve emergency medical services in the province.
The government district hospitals in Bangui, Vintar, Piddig, Dingras, and Marcos as well as the Governor Roque B. Ablan Sr. Memorial Hospital, Provincial Health Office, and Provincial Resiliency Office received one unit each of the AED last February 5, 2021.
As first aid to cardiac arrest patients, the AED portable medical device is used to re-establish the heart’s effective rhythm, health front liners say.
“Wala pa kasing ganitong equipment ang mga hospitals natin. Isa sa requirements kasi ng Department of Health sa paga-accredit ng licensed Patient Transport Vehicle ay ang AED,” Marcell N. Tabije, provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer, said.
He said that the AED will help complement the healthcare providers’ medical services to save human lives in cases of emergency.
Dr. Ruth Corpuz, officer-in-charge and chief of the Doña Josefa Edralin Marcos district hospital, expressed her gratitude to the PGIN for giving the AED donation to further bolster medical services for our province mates.— (Blessing Angel V. Agliam, PGIN-CMO)
