Corporal demoted in rank for indiscriminate firing of guns

A policeman of Ilocos Norte was reportedly demoted to one rank from corporal to patrolman for an alleged indiscriminate firing of firearms.

The demotion order was issued by Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta, chief of the police regional office based at Camp Brig. Gen. Oscar Florendo, San Fernando City, La Union.

In his decision, General Peralta said the erring cop was guilty of grave misconduct unbecoming of a police officer.

Earlier, an administrative case was filed against the policeman before the Internal Affairs Office of the PNP regional office I.

The case stemmed from the incident on the night of Feb. 25, 2021, in his hometown wherein he allegedly committed indiscriminate firing of guns.

Records showed that the responding police troopers who rushed to the scene recovered empty shells of bullets for M-16 Armalite rifle and Caliber .45 pistol.

Meanwhile, the separate criminal case filed against him was allegedly dismissed. (tri-media report)
