A herculean task versus youth’s mental care woes

The legislative effort of the Ilocos Norte provincial board in passing a resolution giving blanket authority to the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) to amalgamate with the Department of Education-Laoag City division in order to buttress the mental well-being of our local student learners vis-a-vis the COVID-19 pandemic is truly a timely and noteworthy initiative.

Due to imminent mental disturbances among the studentry, the youthful legislator and upcoming brilliant lawyer Saul Paolo Lazo crafted Resolution No. 2021-04-301 which aims to counteract any psychological havoc on our children’s fragile minds.

Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc and Schools Division Superintendent Vilma D. Eda may now put in black and white a memo to this effect.

It may be noted that legislator Lazo’s colleagues in the Sangguniang Panglalawigan had concurred with him in the strong belief that the contagion has a negative impact on the emotional and psychological faculty of the studentry under the blended education and online classes.

For long period, the DepEd policy of no face-to-face classes and the government health protocol on kids and teens like staying at home have brought boredom that may zap the mental health of our children. Of course, nobody wants to reach that critical point against our children’s well-being.

From our standpoint, we see that the aforesaid provincial resolution gives a herculean task to both DepEd and PGIN to achieve the goal (hoping for their success) while the students’ dilemma is how to maintain a good and sound mind during the blight. (IS)
