Task Force vs. Fake News formed amidst COVID 19 crisis

Amidst the COVID-19 scare, “Task Force COVID Kontra Peke”, was formed to curb and combat the proliferation of misinformation and fake news on social media and other online platforms grappling our government authorities.

The role of the Task Force is very crucial since its expertise is what its action will depend on in helping the government’s fight against the spread of disinformation during this COVID-19 pandemic.

Obviously, the spread of disinformation is malicious; it is designed to create confusion and foment hate against the government.

We must not ignore the consequences of continuous widespread of disinformation since it threatens peace and order during this time of national emergency.

Palace officials warned anyone peddling fake news could be charged for violating Republic Act 10175 (Anti-Cybercrime Law), or under Section 6 (f) of Republic Act 11469 (Bayanihan to Heal As One Act), whichever is applicable.

Netizens are advised to be careful in handling social media feeds related to the global contagion.

We, therefore, all unite, not only in defeating a faceless enemy, in the form of a virus, but also in ending the improbable concoction of fake news aimed to discredit the government.#. (is)
