7 rifle grenades found near a bridge in Paoay

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, June 5– A sack containing seven rifle grenades and a corroded revolver was found near a bridge at Brgy. 4 Laoa, this town, police reported.

Capt. Eddie Suyat, town police chief, said a certain Froilan Bagasol was herding his goats near the bridge when he accidentally stumbled on the sack containing the explosives and the rusty handgun.

Bagasol said he thought at first the items were flashlights. He reported his find to Brgy. Chairwoman Evelyn Galano who in turn relayed it to the police station.

The SWAT team rushed to the scene and seized the explosives. Investigators surmised that the hot items were apparently concealed near the bridge due to the intensified anti-loose firearms drive of the PNP.

The explosives were already turned over to the Explosive Ordnance Division of the Ilocos Norte police provincial office at Camp Juan in Laoag City for proper disposal, Captain Suyat said. (tri-media report)
