City of San Fernando, La Union – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Region I, together with its Provincial operating units, will launch the Puerto Princesa Underground River – New 7 Wonders of Nature (PPUR – N7WN) campaign on July 25, 2011. The activity will commence the aggressive voting campaign which the PPUR – N7WN Task Force, headed by DILG Secretary Jesse M. Robredo, will undertake, both local and international, to promote and push for the proclamation of the Puerto Princesa Underground River as one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
The PPUR is the lone official nominee of the Philippines to the N7WN, a Swiss-based polling campaign highlighting and celebrating the beauty of the planet.
Among the activities which will be included in the launching are the Audio – Video Presentation of the PPUR and the synchronized text voting of all regional and provincial office personnel of DILG Region I heade by Regional Director Manuel V. Biason.
In addition, the Department issued Memorandum Circular No. 2011 – 106 enjoining all local chief executives to officially launch the PPUR – N7WN campaign in their respective local government units also on July 25, 2011. Representatives from National Government Agencies, Civil Society Organizations and other sectors are also enjoined to participate and support the campaign.
Director Biason has also issued an advisory to all the members of the Region I Management Coordinating Committee (RMCC) composed of the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC) to hold activities to launch the campaign in their respective agencies and field units.
DILG Region I started advocating the PPUR – N7WN campaign to all local government officials and other functionaries as early as March this year. The voting will close on November 11, 2011.
