The estimated total cost of damages to agriculture and infrastructure caused by typhoon Lando in Ilocos Norte has reached over P55 million-mark, provincial officials reported.
Gov. Imee Marcos said they had already informed the chairman of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in La Union about the typhoon damages in the province.
According to Engr. Pedro Agcaoili of the Ilocos Norte’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resiliency Council, among the severely destroyed agricultural plants were rice, corn and high value crops worth more or less P38 million.
Agcaoili said that rice plantations in at least 15 towns and 2 cities in the province were critically affected with a combined damage cost of P36 million, while corn farms in at least 5 towns and 1 city lost P400,000 worth of their crops.
Farmers of high value crops in Badoc, Dingras towns and Batac City suffered P1 million worth of ruined crops.
Agcaoili further reported about P15 million loss in flood control projects while roads and bridges, all mainly found in the 2nd district, had P1 million loss.
On irrigation system, Agcaoili reported a total loss in irrigation projects valued at about P350,000 as reported by the National Irrigation Administration.
The disaster council, he said, listed a total of 20 houses as totally destroyed, 19 of which are located in Nueva Era town and one house in Pagudpud town.
He added that 38 houses were reported as partially damaged, 24 of which are found in Pagudpud town and 14 in Burgos town.
In the town of Solsona, the disaster council reported that 119 houses had been flooded at the height of the typhoon. (tsg with report from PGIN-CMO)
