Vice President and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chair Jejomar C. Binay today said the housing sector is studying the use of green technology to help care for the environment.
“Inuumpisahan na po namin ang pag-aaral sa paggamit ng mga materiales na ginawa sa pamamagitan ng “green technology.” Naniniwala po kami na sa pamamagitan nito, makakatulong ang housing sector sa pangangalaga sa ating kalikasan,” Binay said during the Region V Pabahay Caravan in Legazpi City.
“Tinitingnan din namin ang pagtatayo ng climate-resilient communities na sa palagay namin ay angkop na angkop dito sa Bicol Region,” he added.
The housing czar noted that Region V is often hit by typhoons and sustains vast damages to infrastructure and agriculture.
Bicol, along with eight other regions, suffered P14.96 billion-worth of damages due to Typhoons Pedring and Quiel, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
“Ang Pilipinas, sa pamamagitan ng HUDCC, ay nakikipag-tulungan sa United Nations–Habitat para sa pagpapatupad ng programang “Cities in Climate Change Initiative.” Ang Sorsogon City ay ang pilot LGU sa ilalim ng programang ito,” Binay said.
The Vice President added that the program aims to incorporate climate risk reduction into the policies of the local government units, and encourage families to participate in efforts to create climate-resilient cities and protect the environment.
“Pagtulung-tulungan natin na harapin ang hamon na pag-isahin ang pagpapatupad ng programang pabahay kasabay ng pangangalaga sa kalikasan,” he said.
During the caravan, Binay awarded Transfer Certificates of Title (TCT) to 20 housing beneficiaries from two community associations in Daet, Camarines Norte under the Community Mortgage Program of the Social Housing Finance Corporation.
The HUDCC chair also led the distribution of TCTs to seven housing loan borrowers who have fully-paid their accounts under the Unified Home Lending Program of the National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation.
