GALANO REASSUMES AS PAOAY MAYOR

  • The Court of Appeals issues
a preliminary injunction in his favor

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte, June 29–Ousted MayorJessie Galano of this town was reinstated to his post by the Department of Interior and Local Government after the Court of Appeals issued a preliminary injunction in his favor.

DILG regional officials said he was reinstalled as mayor of Paoay while waiting for the final resolution for a permanent injunction.

Galano was earlier unseated by the Ombudsman for committing a grave misconduct when he was still a vice mayor of Paoay together with a co-respondent, a town councilor.

Galano filed a motion for reconsideration with the Ombudsman and later elevated his case to the Court of Appeals where he got a TRO (temporary restraining order).

It may be noted that Vice Mayor Dr. Eileen Llaguno-Guerrero was earlier installed by DILG as Galano’s replacement in compliance with the Ombudsman order.

She served as mayor for several days together with senior councilor Larry Abundo who acted also as vice mayor by the law of succession.

With this new development, Dr. Guerrero peacefully relinquished the mayorship unto Galano and returned to her old post as vice mayor of Paoay.

Abundo, likewise, stepped down and rejoined the Sangguniang Bayan as No. 1 councilor. (tri-media report)
