There’s money in old newspapers

LAOAG CITY, Jan. 15 – A women’s group in Sarrat town is behind a collection of functional bags and home decors that were carved out of old newspapers.

The women applied the skills they learned from a paper craft training under the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office livelihood program.

Sarrat Sangguniang Bayan member Vivian Wa-ay said the program aims to provide women an opportunity to earn income using craft and recyclable materials.

Aside from earning cash, the women were also made aware on how to recycle and address problems on solid waste management.

The products made their way to boutique outlets that are housed in a commercial arcade in the capital city.

Back in 2012, a group of women from Baguio City also provided training which has since been replicated among other women in the province. (CHERRY JOY S. DISCAYA)
