Sugarcane bloc buys “korong2” trike

LAOAG CITY, Dec 4– Local sugarcane producers here received an early Christmas gift from the city government as they got financial aid, Tuesday, December, 3 at the Laoag City Hall.
Members of the Sugarcane Products Producers Association (SPPA) led by their president Norma Dela Cruz accepted the P75,000-worth of assistance.

SPPA is an association of sugarcane farmers and sugarcane product producers coming from the different barangays of Laoag City.

Most commonly marketed product of SPPA members is the sukang iIuko, considered to be the One Town One Product (OTOP) trademark of the city.

According to the SPPA president, the money they received will be used to purchase a “korong-korong”– a type of multi-purpose tricycle usually used by farmers to transport farm and poultry products to market.

The main problem of SPPA members is delivering products from one place to another incurring additional expenses for the association.

On August 14 this year, the association passed a resolution asking Laoag City mayor Michael Farinas through the office of the city agriculturist to allocate financial assistance to be used in purchasing a multi-purpose tricycle for the association.

Association of Barangay Councils federated president Chevylle V. Farinas led the awarding of the financial assistance in a simple program conducted immediately after the regular flag raising ceremony. (ANL/APT-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
