LAOAG CITY, July 20—Sangguniang Panglalawigan member Vicentito “Toto” Lazo delivered a privilege speech during their regular session requesting Laoag Mayor Chevylle Fariñas and her husband Vice Mayor Michael Fariñas to go on temporary leave from their respective posts.
To formalize his request, Lazo, a lawyer, sought the passage of an SP resolution. As usual, it was deliberated, studied and approved marked by interpellation.
The resolution, Lazo said, aims to urge the Farinas couple to have a temporary leave from their offices to erase public doubt that they may influence the ongoing joint investigation by the Commission on Audit and Bureau of Local Government Finance in connection with the recent alleged P900 million city fund anomaly at the city treasurer’s office.
Vice Mayor Fariñas reacted to the issue saying the enacted resolution was politically motivated. He, instead, challenged Lazo to face him in the mayoral fight in Laoag come next 2019 local elections.
The lady mayor, on the other hand, declined to comment saying she had not seen a copy of the resolution at press time.(tsg w/ mja report)
