SP asked to aid scholarship grants expansion

LAOAG CITY, Nov. 29 (PIA) — The Provincial Education Department here has sought the help of the provincial board to expand the province’s scholarship grants for academic year 2014- 2015.

The PED appealed before the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Ilocos Norte to support the increase in the number of scholars to help more deserving student leaders and academic achievers.

The scholarship program is under the “Iskolar ni Manang Imee” and Sirib Ilocano Kabataan Association (SIKA).
So far, the provincial government had strengthened the education sector in the province by alloting more than P900 million for the scholarship program this year and its continuing expansion.

The province has a total of 3, 873 scholarship grants for the academic year 2013-2014 under the sponsorship of “Iskolar ni Manang Imee” program.

Moreover, a total of P 300,000 was allocated to pay the electric bills of 273 schools through the “INEC Mo Sagot Ko” program. INEC refers to Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative.

The education sector also plans to provide incentives to individual and groups who excelled or were awarded in national and international competitions in science and technology, mathematics, sports, and arts.

The provincial government has also included SIKA scholarship for youth leaders to govern special leadership scholarships to ensure the continuity of the province’s youth organization.

“Education however shall be taken beyond age and place. We will convert Ilocos Norte into a learning province, where every tree and leaf is a book full of unspoken wisdom from Mother Nature herself,” Gov. Imee R. Marcos said. (Cherry Joy D. Garma and Kristine Jhena Pagdilao)
