LAOAG CITY, October 31 — The City Government of Laoag through its Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) office led the culminating program for the national children’s month celebration in region 1.
More than 450 delegates from the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan gathered to promote the program for the welfare of the children
Embodied with the theme “Bright Child Siguraduhin, Responsableng Pamamahayag ay Palaganapin”, this year’s culminating activity was organized to ensure responsible exposure of children to the society through responsible journalism.
DSWD Officer-In-Charge Perlita Cabello said the city is much honored to be chosen as the venue for the big event after 13 years of not hosting the program.
Awarding of the winners for the Presidential Award for Most child-friendly in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd class municipalities and component cities is among the highlight of the event.
Friendly competition were undertaken by the DSWD such as draw and tell, singing and folk dance contest where representatives from different provinces and cities enthusiastically performed in each category.
Individuals who served as board of judges for the contested events were from Regional office of the Philippine National Police, Women’s Desk, Department of Education and Department of Social Welfare and Development Office.
Prizes for the winners ranged from ten thousand (P10,000) pesos for the first place, seven thousand (P7,000) pesos for the second place and five thousand pesos (P5,000) for the third place. (ANL/CDG-PIA 1 Ilocos Norte)
