PASUQUIN, Ilocos Norte, Dec. 17–Retired policeman Salvador Castillo, Independent candidate for councilor, was shot and killed during an ambush staged last night by gunmen riding in tandem along the national highway in Brgy. Caruan, this town.

Police said Castillo, former barangay chairman, was on his way home to Brgy. Dilavo aboard his motorcycle when the suspected hired killers, fired at him. He just came from the town proper where he attended a Christmas lantern parade when the ambush occurred.

Although bloodied, he managed to drive his motorcycle towards sitio Tolnagan where he sought help from the residents.

He expired at the hospital due to fatal gunshot wounds in the different parts of the body.

The PNP SOCO team found several empty shells for cal. 45 pistol at the crime scene.(tsg)
