Poor families enjoy ongoing ‘Pantawid’ livelihood aids

LAOAG CITY, – The Department of Social Welfare and Development has continued to provide livelihood assistance to the pantawid beneficiaries in Ilocos Norte to sustain their economic viability.

The DSWD had turned over P77,000 worth of capital assistance to 10 pantawid beneficiaries for their soft broom and wine making projects in Adams town.

Marcelo Nicomedes Castillo, DSWD director for Region 1, said the aid will support the income generating activities of poor families in the province.

Other 4Ps beneficiaries from the various local government units (LGUs) in the province had also received capital assistance during the series of check awarding rite conducted by the DSWD namely Laoag City with P669,000 for 75 beneficiaries; Vintar with P182,000 for 20 beneficiaries; and Bangui with P186,000 for 20 reciepients.

Castillo said the financial assistance will help boost the identified projects of the pantawid beneficiaries such as sari-sari store, vegetable vending, peanut butter production, and souvenir making, among others.

He advised the beneficiaries to be good stewards of the government’s assistance.

Likewise, DSWD will continue to monitor repayment and project status to ensure good implementation and savings mobilization.
