Pillos is physically out from mayor’s office

MARCOS, Ilocos Norte, April 22–Deposed re-electionist town mayor Salvador Pillos is now physically out from the mayor’s office.
A demolition team removed his personal belongings from the office. His makeshift stairway at the backdoor was also dismantled. A brief tension cropped up during the demolition but cops and cooler heads intervened.
For months, Pillos refused to vacate the mayor’s office where he locked himself and virtually ate and slept there with some die-hard supporters. He claimed that it’s only the Supreme Court which could order him to relinquish his post.
On the other hand, sitting town Mayor Arseno Agustin admitted that he ordered a demolition team to remove all eyesores in the Mayor’s Office premises. Agustin uses a room of nearby building as his temporary office.
Pillos’ counsel Ferdinand Ignacio said he is hoping that SC would render soon a decision on the Pillos vs. Agustin case to know who is the legitimate elected mayor of Marcos town.(jrg)
