Philippines Institute of Development Studies (PIDS) Corner inIlocos Norte

The setting up of a PIDS corner in the province started thru a letter request  directed to the governor, Hon. Imee  R. Marcos.  With Her Honor’s instruction,  the provincial librarian coordinated with the officials of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) Main campus, Batac City.  Hence,  a preliminary meeting was conducted  by PIDS staff, MMSU administrators and the provincial librarian at MMSU Main Library. Tackled among other  things during the meeting was theconduct of an ocular inspection  to determine the ideal venue where to set up  the PIDS Corner.  It was unanimously agreed by the body that  said Corner will be set up at the MMSU Library. However, since the PL”i-hub” is one of the coordinating agencies for the said corner and for  maximum utilization of research materials,   the provincial librarian suggested that  PL “i-hub” should also be a recipient of PIDS materials.  The group agreed to the aforementioned suggestion.  Thus,  revision of  the  Memorandum of Agreement   was  done  wherein the PL “i-hub”  will also be a recipient of PIDS materials in cases of  extra copies or through inter-library loan for single copy.
To formally open the PIDS Corner, theinauguration  rites were held on July 9, 2012 . Invited special guest was the Governor, Hon. Imee R. Marcos who cut the ceremonial ribbon  assisted by Dr. Miriam D. Pascua, President, MMSU and Dr. Josef Yap, President,  PIDS.    Some selected   PL “i-hub”  staff attended the said ceremonies.  A forum  followed with the theme: “Measuring Vulnerability to Natural Hazards : Preliminary Provincial Estimates for the Philippines”. It wasattended by  different heads/chiefs of national government agencies, media men and  members of the Provincial  Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Earlier,  the  PL “i-hub” staff assisted in the  identification of attendees and in the distribution of invitation to prospective participants.  Matilde M. Nery
