PGIN eyes opening tech-voc scholarship for senior high students

The Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) through the Education Department is planning to offer scholarship opportunities for senior high school students taking Technical Vocational Livelihood (TVL) Track.

According to Matilde Neri, Officer-in-charge of the Provincial Education Department (PED), their office is receiving requests for such scholarship grant as the next academic year approaches.

“After acquiring tech-voc skills in Grade 12, students become job-ready and employment opportunities already await them,” Neri said, adding that PED will immediately seek for the approval of the Education Council and the Governor’s Office.

TVL courses include aquaculture, product processing, horticulture, cookery, computer programming, automotive servicing and plumbing, among others.

PGIN has been supporting tech-voc scholars from different colleges and universities in the province through the scholarship program which started in the first semester of academic year 2015-2016.

However, noting that not all graduating secondary students can afford to pursue college, PED aims to include senior high school beneficiaries in their list.

Meanwhile, PGIN continues its partnership with the Department of Education in conducting the ‘Brigada Eskwela’ before the start of the academic year 2016-2017. School facilities and equipment such as blackboards, fire extinguishers and monobloc chairs are being prepared, according to Neri.

Neri also assured that PGIN, through Governor Imee Marcos, will continue its thrust for free education especially in the primary level by providing enough fund for scholarship programs and miscellaneous fees.—Jennifer T. Pambid, PGIN-CMO
