LAOAG CITY, January 23 (PIA) – Pangasinan students dominated the 2016 regional festival of talents earning the top spots in three out of four festival events held at the Laoag city hall last Thursday.
The talent festival, an annual event initiated by the Commission on Population in coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), featured four competition categories participated by the selected students from the 14 DepEd divisions in Region 1.
The events include the on-the–spot jingle writing contest, poster making, essay writing and popquiz show.
Erma Yapit, OIC of the Commission on Population in Region 1, said the festival aims to provide secondary learners opportunities to showcase their talents through exhibitions and performances in their respective fields of interest.
The festival includes various activities intending to disseminate population and development concepts by highlighting the issues on youth sector, considered the “high risk fertility group.”
The subject of the entry of the contestants was guided by this year’s festival theme: “Artistry at its Best by Harmonizing Talents; Maximizing Skills.”
The first placers from Pangasinan were Najiva Marquez of Pangasinan 1 Division for the on the spot jingle writing contest; Ron Simon B. Lomibao from San Carlos City Division in Pangasinan for the POPQUIZ show; and Gian Sinlao of San Carlos City Division in Pangasinan for the on the spot essay writing contest.
The first placer for the “on the spot poster making contest” was Francis Apan of Ilocos Sur Division.
Yapit said the first placers in the four events will represent Region 1 in the national level competitions.
The complete list of winners were the following: for on the spot jingle writing contest – first placer- Marquez; second placer – John Fernan E. Lastimosa of Pangasinan 2 Division; and third placer – Leonica A. Cortez of Alaminos City Division in Pangasinan.
For the POPQUIZ show: first placer – Lomibao ; second placer – Lovely Ann Nullar of San Fernando City Division of La Union; and third placer – Erson Muyalde of Dagupan City Division in Pangasinan.
On the spot essay writing contest; first placer –Sinlao; second placer – Sofia Ysabelle Mendiola of Ilocos Norte Division (INHS); and third placer – James Adrian Aralis of Vigan City Division in Ilocos Sur.
For the poster making contest: first placer – Apan; second placer – Cheena Mae Asistin of Vigan City Division in Ilocos Sur; and third placer – Anjanette Cayabyab of Dagupan City Division in Pangasinan. (Freddie G. Lazaro/PIA-1 Ilocos Norte)
