New slaughterhouse for Batac City

BATAC CITY – City Mayor Jeffrey Nalupta expressed his optimism that the plan to modernize the city’s slaughterhouse in Brgy. Barani here will materialize before his term ends.

He revealed that as of now, they have two options, whether the existing structure may be utilized or rather construct a new slaughterhouse.

As an initial action, the mayor conducted an ocular inspection of the existing slaughterhouse.

One problem that was encountered was that the lot where it stands right now is still not yet owned by the city government, although, the legal owners have reportedly expressed their willingness to donate the lot to the city government.

The mayor also discovered that the city government owns a lot with an area of 2,200 square meters located at the back of the lot where the slaughterhouse currently located.

Aside from the initial funding of P5 million, the mayor said that the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) has signified to give a grant for the modernization of the city’s slaughterhouse.

If done, he believes that this would be the first modern slaughterhouse in Ilocos Norte. (tsg)
