Lito Gorospe, 78, passes away

Lito Gorospe, a long time spokesman of the Marcoses, has passed away at age 78 while being confined in a Manila hospital. Doctors said he died of aneurysm.

He worked for many years as spokesperson of incumbent Rep. Imelda R. Marcos (2nd district, Ilocos Norte) prior to his death. He headed the Provincial Information Office of Ilocos Norte under then Gov. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. in 1998-2007. He was also a prominent figure in the Malacanang press office during the Marcos era.

Music lovers in Ilocos Norte and nearby provinces had a sweet memories of him as he had a radio program “You, The Night and Mr. Music” aired every Sunday night over MBC-DZJC in Laoag City. With his baritone voice , DJ Sir Lito ad-libbed in English and played popular songs of yester years like those favorites of Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Kenny Rogers, Mat Monroe and others.

Mr. Gorospe hailed from Sta. Catalina, Ilocos Sur. In recent year, he donated a part of his ancestral land property to the municipality of Sta. Catalina, his hometown. He is survived by wife Astrid and children of Laoag City. See related story “Mr. Night Owl” on page 8 (Excel D. Guiang)
