Gov. Imee gives cash incentives to R1AA winners

Ilocos Norte athletes who won in the Region 1 Athletic Association (R1AA) Meet at Lingayen, Pangasinan, including their coaches and trainorsreceived P1, 287, 000 worth of cash incentives.

Three thousand pesos was given toevery gold medalist (221); P2, 000 to eachsilver medalist (184); P1, 000 forevery bronze medalist (138)and P500 to runners-up (146).

The giving of cash incentiveswas highly appreciated by the athletes who acknowledged the support of Gov. Imee Marcosfor the involvement of youth in sports development in the province.

Sharmaine Joy Pascua, a pupil from Bangsirit Elementary School who bagged the championship in freestyle swimming competition, first place in breast stroke, third place in back stroke and fourth place in butterfly stroke was granted the highest amount of cash incentive in the primary level. She took home a total amount of P15,000.According to her, she will use a part of the money for studies and share the remaining amount to her parents. She also pointed out that her source of inspirationare her parents, siblings, teachers and her coach.

Gov. Imee said she feels proud that the youth of Ilocos Norte excel in the field of sports and shall continue to provide support to young athletes.

Ilocos Norte regained its championship crown this year as it conquered most of the sporting events, accumulating 617.17 points at the end of the competitions. Completing the top 5: Pangasinan II (522.25 points), Pangasinan I (387.75 points), La Union (255 points), and San Fernando City (163.67 points).
