BATAC CITY, Ilocos Norte May 16 — In order to promote greater awareness and understanding of essential economic and financial issues among the people of Ilocos Norte, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) re-launched its Economic and Financial Learning Center (EFLC) in its Batac Branch here on Monday, May 14.
BSP Deputy Governor Diwa C. Guinigundo and other officials led in the re-launching rites attended by representatives of the Ilocos Norte banking and business sector, government agencies, members of the academe and media.
Already in operation since 2008, the EFLC-Batac has expanded its scope and services by upgrading its facilities and linking with the EFLC network to ensure that all electronic resources in the Center in Manila are also available to the public in the Center in Batac. This way, economic and financial learning will be made available to the people of Ilocos Norte not only through books and periodicals but also through technology-based interactive learning modules, video clips and even educational computer games.
Researchers at the Center will have easier access to information on economic issues as they browse through the digitized library collection as well as the economic statistical database.
Deputy Governor Guinigundo said that in promoting economic and financial education through the Center, the BSP is able to help the people make wise financial decisions and turn stakeholders to be more effective partners in ensuring a stronger and safer banking and payments system.
The re-launching of EFLC-Batac is in line with the Bangko Sentral’s master plan to set up Centers in its main office and in 21 regional offices and branches nationwide.
Following its re-launching, the EFLC-Batac will be conducting the Financial Education Expo for the Workforce; “Be up to Speed on BSP” info campaign on the role of the BSP in the economy; New Generation Currency Briefing; Financial Education Expo for students and members of the Academe; “Paghahanda sa Kinabukasan” financial learning campaign for OFWs and their beneficiaries; and Financial Learning Seminar for Microfinance Clients.
