Ex-convict nearly stabs vice mayor-elect Valdez

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte, June 15—Vice Mayor-elect Marlon Valdez, younger brother of incoming town mayor Dr. Alfredo “Boying Valdez Jr., was nearly attacked by a drunk knife-wielding man in Brgy. 1 near the Robinsons mall here at about 4 pm yesterday.

Police report said the younger Valdez was driving his car near the mall when the suspect drove his tricycle and intentionally blocked the direction of the former’s car.

Valdez alighted to confront the suspect. He noticed that the suspect got a knife from his tricycle and brandished trying to stab him. He quickly returned to his car to avoid the attack but unfortunately he slipped and fell to the ground.

The suspect was arrested during a police pursuit operation. He denied any involvement in the attempted attack against the vice mayor-elect. Instead, he tagged his companions as the suspects to avoid the charges.

The suspect, a former convict in illegal drug case and resident of Brgy. 24 here, probably did not recognize the incoming vice mayor, lawmen said. (tsg w/ ga report)
